Advanced Networking builds on foundational knowledge of computer networks (OSI/TCP-IP models, addressing, and introductory routing) to deepen understanding of modern network operation, design, and management.
This course covers advanced concepts including dynamic routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, BGP), local and wide-area network technologies (VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, STP, EtherChannel, HSRP, PPP, and VPN/GRE), transmission protocols (TCP/UDP with flow, congestion, and error control), key application-layer protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, SMTP/POP/IMAP, FTP, DHCP, DNS, SSH), IPv6 addressing and transition mechanisms, and network management tools and practices (SNMP, QoS, LLDP/CDP/NTP, and configuration automation with Ansible).
Through a combination of lectures and practical work, students learn to analyze, design, and manage complex network infrastructures, applying these skills in professional and research contexts.
